Reading Resources at Your Fingertips | Summer Reading Help

I can't tell you how much I struggled to find the right resources when I was helping my first child learn to read. We knew she was struggling with reading but we didn't know how to help her. It turns out that she was not processing the learning the same as she did math and it was a bit harder for her to grasp the process. She needed to see and do something multiple times before she actually would grasp it.

So, after probably a year of after school help, testing and private tutors, we finally found a tutor was and is an educator but understood how my daughter learned best and this was a game changer. It was sometimes painful because she was in 2nd grade and had to re-learn everything from Kindergarten through 1st Grade. That was a lot to catch up and we spent everyday (Sun-Sat) of every week for about 16 months getting her up to speed with K-3rd Grade. Yes, by this time she was in 3rd Grade. We did it and we all survived.

What I learned is every child learns different without any disorders attached to it and then you layer on a disorder, it further complicates the matter. My daughter has ADD and a processing disorder which she grew out of or learned to compensate for that disorder herself. The ADD is still an issue at the age of 20 years old but she knows how to cope and compensate there too.

I created Let's Learn to Read out of my own struggle with finding the right resources to help my child read. This is the process we used with her and it has a lot of flexibility to find what works for your child. It is a simple 15 mins a day process and can be done after breakfast or before dinner. I use to do it with my daughter while was cooking dinner. I did a lot of crockpot meals back then. Sometimes when she struggled with something that evening, I would try it the next morning and she would breeze through it. I was giving her time to process and she always felt good when she mastered something quickly.

This is not meant to be the answer to all your child's learning challenges but it gives you a resource that is easy to do and provides flexibility for both of you. When traditional methods are failing, it's good to have something else to try that is cost effective and easy.

Happy Reading!
